A September 2022 visit to the region of Thrace

Sep 23, 2022 | Personal Blog

In September 2022, Cracking of the Mask co-author Alexander paid a visit to the region of Thracespecifically Bulgaria, which today lies at the heart of the Thracian lands.

According to Alexander:

Returning to the Thracian lands that are so dear to my heart was a wonderful experience. A combination of work and personal matters brought me to Bulgaria on a trip that was practically arranged at the last minute. Just a month prior to departure, I had no idea I would be traveling! But life can be quite unpredictable, and before I knew it, off I went. Now that I’ve returned to the States, I can say with certainty that I had an absolute blast. Not only did I meet warm and kind-hearted people during my journey, but I am grateful for the opportunity to have experienced the rich beauty of Thrace all over again.

Below are four pictures from my time in Bulgaria.

In Bessian fashion, I got to experience the beautiful sunrise in Shumen, Bulgaria, along with three wonderful companions.

I was also able to explore Pirin National Park (the ancient Mount Orbelus in “Cracking of the Mask”)…

… and walk among the majestic pine trees of southwestern Thrace, taking in the fresh mountain air that was infused with the aroma of the pines.

Finally, here is a picture of the Razlog Valley; the home of Evmondia in the contemporary storyline of “Cracking of the Mask.”

Thanks so much for reading this post! The regular “Travel Through Time” blog series will resume in October!
